Well, shit.
I’m listening to Music Choice on TV, and I have it on 80′s. I’ve noticed a few things about 80′s music.
- Minimum swearing. You’ll hear a few songs with one word that was considered a swear punishable by death (or at least public lashing) way back when. The usage of the word “fuck” was
nearlyabsent. - They were happier. There were heartbreak songs (and probably the best damn heartbreak songs ever since), but you were able to dance or at least sway. Yes, you can do that to a few songs like that today, but the key word here is “few”.
- More variety. ‘Nuff said.
- The artists then did get arrested and got caught doing drugs, but it wasn’t too big a deal then. It’s the story of people’s lives these days.
- Violence talk=practically non-existent. Not a lot of talk about guns, or chopping up people.
- Sex talk=non-existent. I think that was kinda illegal in music back then anyway.
- Finally, you can never get tired of 80′s music. You can hear songs from back then and don’t mind hearing it for years to come. 80′s music has the same effect on me as the genre downtempo does. I can never get tired of listening to Thievery Corporation or Zero-7.
Hm…I can only hope that it gets better. But in case it doesn’t, thank goodness for Music Choice.
PS: Downtempo channel please.

I love “older” music. 80s isn’t my favorite, I like more 60s, but its true that the music of even twenty years ago is radically different.
What is Music Choice? Is it like MuchMusic or MTV?

I loved that channel when we had that option years ago! 80s music is more timeless than any other period, a lot of bands still borrow the sound directly. it’s something that doesn’t go away.
The stars were as fucked as the stars today, cocaine anyone? There just wasn’t as much blogging back then…

Ahhhh yes, you’re so right about 80s music…it’s probably why it hasn’t lost its following and gains new fans everyday…
By the way, look for Ian Dury (Or Durry?) And the Blockheads. Not sure if you’ll like them, but give him a try.
