Nat’s interview trilogy
It never ends with me and the neverending job search. Just last week, however, I lucked out and got not one, not two, but three interviews lined up pretty much one after the other. Each had their pros and cons, so here we go. (A lot of the commentary is cross-posted from Catalyst, but there’s more here. I promise.)
Interview #1: Last Friday
I’m not a huge fan of the area (it’s in an industrial area and there’s not one food area within 5 minutes of the place), but it’s a very laid-back environment where you can get away with wearing flip-flops (seriously, the receptionist there wore flip-flops. But it could be because it was her last day) and jeans. It’s also in the media field–it’s a company where they rent out lighting and stuff for TV and movies. I have some experience in that field. Not necessarily in lighting, but I’m open to learning more.
They dropped another bomb (which can work to my advantage): They’re looking for someone who can update their new website as well.
And it’s pretty close by; it’s in Queens, so all I have to do is hop on the train (or if I can find it, a bus) and get there and home within 45 minutes. The walk itself is about 15 minutes (it seemed like forever today since I wore shoes that for some reason fucked me over) from the train. I can get the 30 minutes of exercise in just by doing that, and since it’s a very casual dress, it won’t be as painful.
Interview #2: Monday
The good thing about it is that the bus takes me right to the area in comparison to the 15-minute walk of the other one. The caveat–it’s an almost-2-hour bus ride, and I almost didn’t make it to the interview. I’m usually punctual, but in order for me to get there by 9am sharp, I’d have to leave my house at 7:30am. My bathroom is never completely empty before 8am thanks to my sister and niece. Because of that, I would actually have to wake up no later than 6:30am. Considering that this would mean that I would have only, at best, 4 hours of sleep (thank you insomnia!), not a good idea.
Then when I got there, I don’t know why, but the nerves got the best of me. The interviewer made me very nervous. A bad sign.
The attire is business casual. I guess that works. I was never a suit person (I think I look like shit in suits). I just need to find a pair of shoes that are comfortable. That has been a huge problem for this whole time. What’s worse? My Achilles tendon has been acting up as of late. Not a good sign.
Interview #3: Wednesday (Yesterday)
You wanna laugh?
I find my way perfectly…until I get off the train (only an hour ride compared to 2 hours), and I lose my sense. I quickly find it, and it’s not as hard to find as I thought. I get there and I was given an application and a vocabulary and spelling test. Yes, go ahead. Laugh. My thoughts exactly. WTF? I aced it, obviously. It gets better though.
The person interviewing me was a nervous wreck. As opposed to me being nervous on Monday thanks to the interviewer, I had her stumbling over words and mixing shit up. I didn’t know I’m that intimidating. Okay, maybe it’s not me directly, but I thought I’d be more nervous, but it turned out the other way. It didn’t last very long, and she said that they’ll call back sometime next week. This one is with a law firm by the way. The environment is very nice as well.
So which one do I have my money on. Number 1 or 3 please. I’m hoping that one of them will call at least. I mean, three interviews and not one callback? That’d be depressing. Something’s gotta give. Something’s gotta pay off now. It better. *shifty eyes* I did not wear the most uncomfortable shoes to get fucked over.
Anyway…yeah. I’m done. Now it’s time for me to rest.

I’d be surprised if you didn’t get called back for the third interview. I mean, if the interviewer was acting like a nervous wreck and you held your composure…that’s gotta be a good sign. Good luck, though. I hope this works out for you and you’re happy where ever you end up.

One of the only things I’d ask for in a job (other than the basics: good pay, benefits, hours, etc), is that they dress code is casual and/or anything goes!!! Uniforms are a HUGE no-no.

This whole like, looking for jobs thing, not so much. It bugs like a bad yeast infection. I’d go with the job you’d be happiest at. Honestly, you’ll just quit if you don’t.
