A simple change in scenery works for me.
No lie–I’ve never been off the East Coast. I spent the past 20-odd years up north, where it’s freezing in December, and still manage to get up to the high 80′s in July. Although, I’m going to be a NYC girl forever (even if I move, then come back because everywhere else is too quiet), I would like to go somewhere that isn’t on the East Coast. I see myself in the midst of Mardi Gras celebration in New Orleans. I see myself listening to the live jazz on the Steamboat Natchez. I see myself trying some authentic Creole food, and taking in all the sights. I see myself (believe it or not) taking a tour through the St. Louis Cemetery and visit Voodoo Queen Marie’s tomb. Even more heart-wrenching, I would take a walk around the areas still recovering after being devastated by Hurricane Katrina.
All in all, I’d really go to New Orleans for the one thing that I need–a change in scenery. It’s not too far off from the big city feel at all, but the air quality there is better, and Southerners are so much nicer (and I can speak with experience since I go to Maryland once in awhile. Yes, not very south, but you can definitely tell the difference). Maybe one day I will be able to visit.
Another choice would to take Boston tours in case I can’t get to New Orleans. I’d go there in the heat of the baseball season so that I can see all the crazy BoSox fans. Despite what you may think, I won’t laugh at them, no matter how amusing it might be.
