Why Mosquitoes Buzz in People’s Ears.

September 03rd, 2007 at 08:35 pm

I hate mosquitoes. I will say this again. I hate mosquitoes. And again. I FUCKING HATE MOSQUITOES!! On Saturday, I was outside with my friends. Me, being the person I am, I wore capris and flip-flops. I wanted to be as comfortable as possible. I didn’t even think about the mosquitoes. They rarely touch me. I thought that this time would be the same. Boy was I ever wrong!

I just started scratching on my legs. I thought, hey, I need to just put some lotion on my legs and I’ll be okay. It didn’t help. If anything, it made it worse. The legs kept on itching. Then my arms started. Then my finger started. By the time my friends went home, I had at least 10 mosquito bites. No limb was spared. To this moment, it’s still itching. The legs mostly, but there are moments where my arms got a beating. I can only hope that they weren’t diseased. No bite should itch the way that it is doing right now. Too many bites, not enough Cortisone-10 to cover them all.

On the topic of mosquitoes, the reason for the title of this blog is not only because of my mosquito woes, but it’s also the name of an African tale book. This was one of my favorite books when I was growing up, and I would love to see if I can get it so I can give it to my niece. It teaches a lesson–it’s best to listen to bullshit than to miss out on important information, which can eventually cause problems. Here’s the chain of events.

Mosquito tells Iguana that he saw a yam that was bigger than himself. As a result Iguana becomes aggrevated by what he considers to be a stupid story, so he plugs his ears with two sticks. Unfortunately, this sets forth of a chain reaction of misunderstanding as Iguana does not return Python’s greeting. Thus, Python scares the rabbit who alarms the crow who alarms the monkey who accidentally brakes a branch which falls on and kills a baby owlett. Consequently, Mother Owl will no longer call for the sun to rise.

That’s why mosquitoes buzz in people’s ears–they’re asking if everyone’s still mad.

In other non-mosquito-related news, P739 has (seemingly) risen from the dead. A few weeks ago, several people joined–about 5-6 of them in one day. I was shocked to know where they came from, but it turns out that they came from all over. It didn’t matter anymore–it’s the point of them joining and so far, so good. I feel a brand-new love for the board now, and now I can add more projects to it so everyone can get involved. I feel so good to know that I didn’t give up on this. It would be nice if you joined as well. The more, the merrier! :D

Otherwise, that’s basically it. I finished Lou’s layout, but for some ungodly reason, it’s not working right on her site, but working perfectly in the test. Hm. I’ll figure that out after this. Laters.

I liked that African tale. Story of my life actually and why I often have to shake my head when people aren’t patient enough to hear the whole of what I have to say before making decisions.

And mosquitoes are the scum of the earth. Especially down here. Gah.

I wonder if your lotion attracted the mosquitoes? They suck, but at least you know now. And in my experience, the less you scratch them, the less they will itch and the faster they will go away. I know it’s tough, but it’s worth it. You don’t want the bites to get infected either.

That’s a really cool story. I think I remember reading something similar when I was young, but I can’t really remember.

I would join your board if I had more time. Good luck with it though. :)
